Job description:
Primary skills: We are looking for a skilled WAS Administrator with proven experience in WAS v9.0.5.x and specifically in v9.0.5.17 or later who will be responsible for:
- Installation, configuration, and maintenance of WebSphere Application Server, IBM HTTP Server, and related components
- Deployment of Java EE applications, configure resources (JDBC, JMS), and manage JVM tuning.
- Monitoring of system performance, tuning WebSphere runtime, and maintain high availability.
- Diagnosis and resolution of server, application, and connectivity issues using logs and admin tools.
- Configuration of security roles, SSL, permissions, and enforce compliance
- Development and maintenance of backup, recovery, and failover strategies
- Apply patches, fix packs, and version upgrades
- Create scripts (Jython, Python, Bash, PowerShell) to automate routine tasks
- Maintain procedures, architecture diagrams, and troubleshooting guides
The ideal candidate should have the following:
- Understanding of servlets, EJBs, JSP, JDBC, JMS, JNDI, JTA, JAAS
- Experience with Linux, UNIX, Windows Server.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP, SSL, firewalls, load balancing
- Familiarity with IHS, Apache HTTP Server, Tomcat, MQ.
- Able to do scripting using Bash, Python, Jython, PowerShell
- Certification – IBM Certified System Administrator – WAS ND
- 5+ years administering WebSphere Application Server environments.
- Experience with clustering, load balancing, and high-availability architectures.
- Hands-on experience with production deployments, production support and performance tuning
Secondary skills: The candidate should also have secondary expertise in IBM MQ to handle the following:
- Install, configure, and maintain IBM MQ queue managers, channels, listeners, and MQ objects across distributed systems
- Design and manage queue manager networks, clustering, and distributed queue management.
- Monitor queue depth, performance, and message flow; resolve connectivity, delivery, and system errors
- Identify bottlenecks, tune MQ parameters, and integrate monitoring tools such as AppDynamics or Dynatrace
- Implement SSL/TLS, authentication, authorization, and secure messaging protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP/S).
- Develop backup strategies, DR plans, and ensure high-availability configurations (RDQM, DRBD)
- Plan and execute MQ upgrades, apply patches, and migrate MQ objects with minimal downtime
- Maintain configuration records, architecture diagrams, SOPs, and troubleshooting guides.
- Work with application, networking, OS, and storage teams to ensure seamless message flow and support SIT/UAT testing
The requirements for Secondary skills on MQ are:
- Strong experience with MQ installation, configuration, MQSC commands, MQ Explorer
- Deep understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP, HTTPS for secure and optimized message transport
- Proficiency in Linux/UNIX environments
- Ability to automate tasks using shell scripts, MQSC scripts, or integration tools.
- Familiarity with IBM Integration Bus, WebSphere Message Broker, Java/SpringBoot (role-dependent)
- Experience with MQ clustering, distributed queue management, and high-availability architectures
- Certification in IBM Certified System Administrator – MQ
- 6 –8 years of hands-on IBM MQ administration experience
