RFID Asset-Tracking Infrastructure for a National Defense Aviation Organization

Eight aircraft hangars. Thousands of mission-critical parts. Zero margin for missing assets.

Client: Leading Defense Aviation Organization (Infrastructure delivered in collaboration with one of the world’s largest networking technology company)
Sector: Defense / Aerospace
Service: Industrial Wireless & IoT Infrastructure for RFID Asset Tracking

The Challenge

Across eight aircraft hangars, the Leading Defense Aviation Organization relied on manual processes to track spare parts and mission-critical assets. Every inventory check required technicians to spend valuable time searching instead of servicing aircraft. In a mission-readiness environment, any delay in locating a critical component directly impacts maintenance schedules and operational preparedness.
The organization required real-time visibility of every RFID-tagged asset. While RFID technology could deliver that capability, it depended on a highly reliable wireless and switching infrastructure capable of operating continuously inside a secure defense facility while meeting stringent security requirements.

The Solution

Working through a strategic engineering partner, Flint designed and deployed a defense-grade wireless and network infrastructure purpose-built to support large-scale RFID operations.

What Flint built

Engaged through AEC, Flint designed and deployed the defense-grade wireless and switching foundation purpose-built to carry RFID at scale:

  • Industrial Wi-Fi access points mounted at 9 metres for unbroken floor-to-ceiling coverage across all eight hangars
  • A secure Largest Network provider switching fabric with structured cabling engineered for the hangar environment
  • Network hardening and locked-down configurations built to defense security standards – no external exposure
  • Validated RFID reader connectivity and the operational workflows to run it day to day

Infrastructure Delivered

Flint deployed a defense-grade industrial wireless network with enterprise-class switching and structured cabling to provide seamless coverage across all eight aircraft hangars. The infrastructure was hardened to meet stringent defense security requirements, with end-to-end validation of RFID connectivity and operational workflows to ensure reliable, uninterrupted asset tracking.

Results

The organization achieved real-time visibility of RFID-tagged assets across all eight aircraft hangars, significantly reducing the time required to locate mission-critical components while eliminating manual inventory errors. The secure, scalable infrastructure also improved maintenance turnaround and operational readiness, providing a strong foundation for future IoT expansion and facility automation.

AI-Driven Managed Services Inside a defense-grade environment, the same wireless backbone becomes an intelligence source: Flint correlates asset-and-network telemetry to flag coverage degradation early and keep RFID operations mission-ready under strict security constraints.
